Jim was third to launch, roaring off the portside cat without ceremony. He'd kept a close eye on the response times of his team, noting who was quickest off the line. For a recon in force like this, we'll need that he thought, chewing on his lip as he moved into the marshalling stack. "All right, LeNoire, Castle, Steiner, Kid, Regard with me, recon in force. Rey, you take the rest and cover the Polaris" he snapped tersely as he nudged his throttles up.
"Polaris, Leader, taking 6 to investigate potential MS tracks, the rest are up for your tasking" he called on the Command freq before shifting back to Squadron Tactical. "Form up, folks, and keep your eyes out. Minovsky interference is all over the place, so watch your asses and follow me in" he called, pushing the group towards the anomalous readings as he readied his beam rifle...

Waiting to fly out of the Cairo's hangar and into the imminent battle, Julian was in a state of serene calm. He wasn't nervous, any such feelings having died away entirely after surviving that nightmare that was A Baoa Qu. No, if anything he was excited to test out the performance of this new machine and see just what it could do. Everything seemed to point towards the idea of the Asshimar being a powerful weapon that would give anything the AEUG had a run for its money.
Still Julian had concerns about the upcoming battle. It seemed that their mission to try and recon the AEUG bases and factory was still a go but to try and do that while fending off the hostiles from their battleship and the surface at the same time? It seemed like insanity. They'd be sandwiched between two groups of enemies and wind up outnumbered and outgunned. Julian didn't know about the others but he had no intention of dying like that.
Patching himself into the Magi's team frequency Julian said, "Sir, if I might make a suggestion. We know that the mercenary said he'll protect the Cairo but who's going to cover us? Given the situation it might be better to split our team up so that the majority engages and holds off the hostiles while a few focus on grabbing the intel we need. Trying to juggle that and fighting at the same time seems a little extreme and I doubt our adviser needs every machine to snap pictures."

Sealing his helmet properly and checking to make sure the O2 canisters on his belt were functioning properly, Eddy airlocked into the hangar bay and kicked toward his Rick Dias, the cockpit hatch already open. After climbing in and strapping himself into the linear seat, Eddy powered up the mech with a flurry of flicked switches and twisted dials. The green monoeye sensor flared to life as Eddy gripped the joysticks and the Rick Dias began to step out from its berth.
Deciding to go with the same loadout he’d carried at Jaburo – a clay bazooka and shield with two spare magazines – for good luck, Eddy stepped onto the starboard catapult and launched into space with no fanfare. Shifting to full thrust, the Rick Dias’ backpack and feet flared shining blue as the mech moved up into formation with the other mobile suits of Zodiac Squadron. “Copy on all, Anderson. Let’s make sure this isn’t another turkey shoot like in South America...”

"Polaris, Leader, taking 6 to investigate potential MS tracks, the rest are up for your tasking" A picture was emerging in Langstrom's mind- one that told the story of trickery and deceit. I don't like mysteries. As the opening shots were launched, so too did Lars tell Jim to do what was necessary. "Go after them. Don't let them out of your sight. I'll handle things here."

Jim rolled his eyes as Eddy reminded them all of South America. Right. Well, this time, the team's a lot leaner, and we'd better not have as much crap to deal with he thought as he responded. "Sounds about right, Eddy. Just watch you ass and keep your folks alive" he commed back as Lars came in. "Copy, Lars, we'll keep whatever these guys are off you" he called back as his six mobile suits rocketed towards the lunar surface, chasing down the anomalous readings.
==Time skip. All suits have launched and are now at EXTREME range with each other. MINIMAL debris, the Lunar surface is at EXTREME range with both flight groups 'below' the plane they're on ==
Jim's eyes were locked on the scanner board as they closed, waiting for them to finally cut through the Minovsky interference and get a decent look at what they were. They finally broke through, showing... Titans! "Tally four-plus hostiles 12 level at 50, break and attack" he called as he pushed his throttles up. His board beeped at him, showing something new out there. At least, something that's not already in the 'puters, so its gotta be another new ride. Swell... he thought, selecting it as his mark. "Heads-up, new suit in there. Petrenko, form up, we're going for him" he called as he reached an acceptable firing range for the beam rifle his Rechts was carrying.
With that, Jim glanced down at his targeting readouts as he closed, waiting for the opportune moment. "Daddy's home, Titan bastards" he muttered as he squeezed his triggers, the first shots of the engagement ringing out as the beam rifle blast tracked right for the one unknown unit in the enemy formation.

Jaime let out a breath as the battle began.
“Well, so much for that cover we thought that we were going to get.”
Enemy machines were already pouring out of the woodwork, and were already peppering Miller. Jaime couldn’t help but allow himself a smirk at the arrogant, distant and rather unpleasant superior officer.
Well, looks like he’s enjoying his new ride.
Jaime suddenly had to reevaluate his options. The last words of Ennis were still ringing in his ear…
At this point, the enemy was well out of range. At this band, it was unlikely that he could even mass enough fire saturation to even add some suppressive fire. Jaime’s initial plans had been relying on the element of surprise. Minovsky particle dispersion was supposed to play merry hell with radar, but stealth in space was a complicated thing.
It would be one thing if it was just visual cover. The debris isn’t much, but maybe it could do something. But the thermal…without any beams flying it’s going to be a blank slate. At this range any heat signature is a flare in the night. One, giant…
Gears suddenly turned.
“Gage, I’m going to take your advice while not taking it. I’m about to do something either clever or really, really stupid. So, you know, the usual.”
Following Commander Ennis’ instructions, Jaime peeled his Quel toward the Lunar Surface, taking time to slip behind a thin cloud of debris. This is where he would take his chance. Jaime paused for a moment, pulling the manual emergency controls to vent excess heat from his Quel. In atmo, it was a safeguard to prevent the reactor from overheating. Jaime immediately reversed, feeling the G-forces as he jinked and moved before heading at a new angle. Jaime repeated it one more time, dumping heat for one more moment before heading off along his original intended path.
So they want to track thermal…but how much can they see from here?
It was something that was a risk. There was no way that anyone close, or had visual sight on him would be fooled in the slightest. But at long range, and so close to the Minovsky output of the Cairo, maybe radar would still be jammed. And with him dumping his heat, perhaps that would maybe leave multiple mobile suit sized signatures for people to potentially take a pot shot at. And barring that, maybe the heat signature would be so clouded that perhaps the Zekes wouldn’t see where he was going after he broke from his minimal cover.
There were a lot of “if’s” and “maybe’s” in this plan.

Julian licked his lips as he monitor lit up with the enemy contacts coming into view. There were several AEUG machines though they were all of the same types he had faced before, the knock-off GMs and Dom-types. Though the Australian was still a little annoyed that the Jovian mercenary was nowhere to be found and that his own suggestions for how the Magi were going about the mission had been largely missed or ignored in all the commotion, Julian was willing to live with it for now. It's not like they needed Scirocco's help anywa-
A violent shaking of his machine caused Julian to quickly lose track of the thoughts in his head. Looking down at his console, he blinked in surprise to see the tell-tale indicator that his machine had been shot. Not only that, but he'd already lost part of his left arm!
"You've got to be kidding me!" he snarled out to no one but himself.
With everything that had happened since Jaburo, Julian had been feeling like the stars were aligning against him but now he was totally sure of it. Flying a brand new machine into its first battle he'd also taken severe damage in the blink of an eye. It was mortifying in the extreme and he wasn't going to just accept such an insult lying down.
"Wraaagh! My Asshimar!"
Breaking off from the forward momentum of the rest of the team formation, Julian locked onto the bastard who had managed to get off a shot at him. Whoever was flying that crummy GM-model was either extremely good or just damned lucky. For a moment Julian even entertained the thought of him being one of those 'newtypes' that everyone had been talking about at the end of the One Year War. Even if he was it didn't matter. The bastard had injured his machine and he wasn't going to let him get away with it!
++I'll hang back and provide fire support,++ announced Julian over the comms to the rest of his team, ++You guys just worry about engaging these bastards to keep them off me and completing the mission.++
Raising up the bulky form of the Hyper Beam Rifle with the Asshimar's remaining hand, impressing its pilot with the strength the large Mobile Suit had, he zeroed in on the machine that had shot at him with the intent of returning the favor. Julian had never been the most adept at ranged combat like this, that had always been his best friend, Harry's, specialty. But Harry was dead and Julian was in the here and now. In his mind there was no better time to get used to it.
"Let's see how you like it," he yelled as he pulled the trigger and fired off the powerful beam.

Bringing up the rear with its bazooka and shield held ready, the GM Rechts’ visor flashed as the day’s targets entered its effective range. “Pretty gutsy of them to screw around Von Braun with a single squad,” Ben noted as Jim gave out his orders, already taking off and opening up on some new model. He hadn’t gotten a good look at it but given how easily (luckily?) Jim had nailed a hit, Ben doubted it was much of anything to worry about from here. Instead, there were the other five Titans to consider, like the one veering off from the rest of its ilk.
Had they all been fighting it out like that rumble in the jungle, he would’ve missed him entirely. Instead, his position in the back gave him a good read on his heading and he was going to make sure he didn’t just slip on by unhampered. Pulling up the scope and bazooka, Ben tweaked his own position with careful thruster bursts, reticle lining up with its would-be victim as they hid behind debris. But before he pulled the trigger, Ben held off and blinked. He was sure he saw something take off from behind the trash but his own sensors were still stuck on something left behind. And yet again, they picked up on something else at another patch.
“Ahhh very clever,” he mused aloud, getting just what the Titan was on about. Not a bad plan that, playing hide and seek with his sensors. Fool the thermals with heat dumps. The only problem was that, out here in space, the heat died off mighty quick without constant upkeep. And if someone was eying you directly, it’d be rough fooling em. Lining up his scope once more, Ben waited for yet another heat dump and wasn’t disappointed. This time, he followed the light itself and smirked at the Quel trying to slip away before letting loose a round from his bazooka. “A for Effort.”

They'd of course been picking up a Titan force, he doubted anyone else would be moving in on the moon like this. He was glad that he wasn't stuck back at the ship, at least he'd get a chance to kill these assholes up here if nothing else. He supposed it was lucky they'd needed to come here, since he doubted these guys were here for them, but still they'd just recently gotten their replacement machines and hadn't even left yet before needing to deploy.
Unlike them, it seemed the bastards had a new model, and Anderson claimed it right away, everyone he knew had always wanted a shot at taking down a new model, but there were plenty of targets for them so it didn't really matter anyway. Deciding on one of the red ones for himself, Fred moved in to more effectively engage the enemy machine, this wasn't his ideal position, but he was better off firing at the enemy unit than not. The weapon was fine for this range, unlike the beam pistols, but having mostly been on the ground as a Mobile Suit pilot, he still wasn't used to fighting at these kinds of ranges, ground combat necessitated shorter ranges.
Even so, as he moved in, he brought up the bazooka and targeted the red unit, he wanted to shoot at the prick, but he didn't want to waste his ammo at this range and have nothing left when he got closer, so he only fired off one rocket at the enemy machine. "You guys picked the wrong neighborhood this time." he said quietly to himself as he pulled the trigger, not to concerned if he actually landed a hit this time, if he missed, he'd just need to make up for it later on once he was in a closer range that he could work with, he just didn't want to let the prick go without taking a shot first.

GM Rechts Gemini One
Jim watched with satisfaction as his opening shots lanced right into the arm of the big new guy. Most excellent, good way to start this one he thought as Regard likewise took aim and smashed a shot into some jackwagon diving for the Lunar surface and the minimal debris down there. "LeNoire, take your element up the gut. Regard, hold here and give us a base of fire. Kid, with me, lock and fire on new enemy unit" he snapped. Fire and maneuver. Old as ranged combat, and it still works he thought.
Naturally, though, the Titans weren't being quite so obliging as to stay still and get shot. The new guy he'd opened up on returned fire, sending a big weapon towards Jim's Rechts. Well, shit he thought, continuing a lazy slide to his left as he snap-rolled around the shot. OK, don't get hit by that thing he thought, jerking the stick and pedals to generate erratic maneuvers and foul anyone trying to tag him. Not gonna get that prick too easy from here, but I'll stick around to cover my big guns he thought, staying in the sweet spot for Petrenko and Regard as their defense while his heavies made their moves.
His opponent was still there, though, and the shot he'd setup left him on a reasonably constant vector. Not taking any chances here he thought, biting his lip as he slammed the stick over, spiralling off-axis from the bastard and his big gun. With that, he snapped more fire off towards the big guy, pink blasts of Minovsky energy blowing through space as the firefight continued. ______

“Where in hell is that useless pretty boy now?” Holcroft raged from her cockpit as she took stock of the current situation. Of course, nobody could hear her. They were being engaged - again - by an enemy unit, and they had zero cover fire. To top it off, she had a weird gut feeling that this was the same unit they’d engaged on Earth. Which meant…
She cut that train of thought instantly, bringing her shield up defensively in front of her - just in case - and shifting her course to use as much of the débris cover - such as it was - as possible. She picked a target at random - one of the mono-eye units, which reminded her of the Zeke Dom, which she noticed was armed with a heavier weapon. She leveled her beam rifle, aiming for center mass, and opened fire straight at the enemy machine from long range, even as she drew closer to her target.

"Just keep them on their toes, Neston. I don't think they know what to do with you." Gage ended that sentence with a slight chuckle. Julian was already in trouble. Don't let them get any closer. He was going to make these damn corsairs second guess their advance on their descent. One tried to pull of a fast one on him- a shot from twelve o'clock high. The Marasai picked up altitude- slowing its decay to the lunar surface ever so slightly. The polite thing to do would be to return fire. Gage was happy to oblige. "Miller! Use that fancy gun of yours and light up the point men!" Predicting a long range engagement, he chose a beam rifle for this mission. With his weapon raised, he returned fire on Castle. "I wish it was that easy Gaspar 2! Jesus Christ on a f*cking biscuit!” Jaime shouted in alarm as a lock signal suddenly blared. He was honesty surprised that one, his stunt had had practically no effect and two, that someone had lined up a one in a million shot against him. “Shit, shit, shit!”
Jaime twisted, trying to get into position, his CIWS tracking the incoming shot in a desperate attempt to gun the incoming projectile down at the last moment. But it was not to be. With Jaime’s evasive maneuvers, he managed to limit the damage, the shot clipping his Quel’s leg before detonating, sending him spinning out of control. “Well Gaspar 2, it looks like one saw me coming a mile away. Gaspar 2, Gaspar 1…anybody, could someone paint that sonuvabitch sniper?!?”
Jaime tried to straighten himself out, heading closer to the enemy battlegroup, trying desperately to close the gap so that he could finally get into the range of his weapons. Maneuver: Movement. Rick Dias Taurus Two
Hilda snarled as they got contact, both sides trading shots at longer ranges. At least we're giving better than we're getting so far she mused as Anderson and Regard both scored on the hostiles. She still had the Tac Command freq tuned, and caught the Bastard's proposed plan. Simple, but effective, damn his black leg heart she thought as she goosed her engines, moving right up the guy. "On your lead, Eddy" she called as one of the enemy Quels began to break across the no-man's land, right for the long guns of Anderson and Regard. Can't have that now she thought, calling it in. "Black leg snaking across going for you, 'Boss', I'm on it" she snapped, rolling her Dias towards and bringing up the clay bazooka, loaded with normal rounds as per default.
With that, she brought up her targeting system as she closed across the gap, eyeballing her shot the range ticked down. Just a little farther, then switch up weapons and go for the up close kill she knew, relishing the chance to get to grips with the newer models the Titans seemed to be favoring. And there's one of them right there... make him think I'm going for this bent Quel and shift fire...she thought as said Quel jittered in her targeting brackets. With that, she dumped fire from the clay bazooka towards him, the larger weapon spitting its rounds across space and streaking towards the already once-hit GM.

GM Rechts, Taurus Three
Ben whistled a bright beam whizzed by, lighting up his cameras. Whew that’s a big gun. Whatever that new model was, it packed some heavy firepower. It’d be a rain on his parade if something like that plowed into him. “Yeah, yeah, just make sure no one sneaks up on me,” Ben said with a grin, waving off Anderson as he set off for the same injured new model. While Anderson and the rest kept up the pressure, he could just take his sweet time in nailing whoever strayed into his sights. Like the Quel that found itself with one less leg to zip around with.
Loading up a second shell, the GM Rechts angled its bazooka once more, the same target in its sights. How embarrassing, the poor Quel was just floundering about as it tried to rebalance itself and its day was about to get a million times worse with Hilda bearing down on it. “Well, no brakes on this train,” he shrugged, lining up the reticle once more before pulling the trigger. “Watch out, Hilda.
