History
Despite its age, the general design of the Earth Federal Forces’ original GM was one of the most reliable and versatile mobile suits ever created, and its basic layout continues to soldier on to this day. The Titans GM Quel was one such design, but it wasn't the only design that pushed the original GM’s basic design to its very limit. Anaheim Electronics went after the GM design with the intent of creating a stopgap mobile unit while its worked on new designs.
The Rechts started with the base of the 0083-era GM Customs and added in an improved powerplant and extra verniers. Anaheim Electronics pulled from the knowledge of the former Zeonic Corporation personnel they’d absorbed to help upgrade the Custom into a better mobile suit. The powerplant is used to drive the weapon systems of the mobile suit, and carries enough of a load to support beam weapons as the primary armament vice the ballistics most older units favored. With the output to manage a single beam weapon and maintain a greater degree of maneuverability, the Rebel pushes the design of the GM to its very limit. However, these were never meant as anything more than stopgap units to soldier on alongside the GM Customs and even a few original-run GMs used by the AEUG until more modern units can be produced...
