Personality
Marika is a tough girl born out of necessity, adaption and the environments she’s grow up in. A lack of substantial female role models has also contributed greatly but she has taken great strides to as she calls it ‘reigning in the rough’. Especially after moving into a major city Marika took what she liked and while still more akin to a tomboy than anything else has done her best to in her mind make herself presentable and not embarrass her father. However due to her unfamiliarity she will often select things at a whim often clashing with the more tomboyish image she normally presents. The most glaring example would be her hair which has grown far beyond any length she’s had it before.
Most of her adolescence was spent growing up around her adoptive father and his friends, often this has led her able to see through excuses boys or young men her age depending on how she views them act. Growing up in this environment has also made her rather blunt, but at the same time she keeps most of her thoughts to herself unless prompted too and will do so with gusto and heedless to the consequences.
Lastly is her interest with the Zeon military, which seems to be more akin to a familiarity that leads to the desire to seek out the familiar. Marika has knowledge of several Zeon military aspects ranging from field maintenance, mobile suit doctrine and medal identification. She even has knowledge of some places in Side III despite never visiting and she is very evasive on the subject if pressed and believes she should try to avoid talking about her ‘family’ as much as possible
Inside a mobile suit Marika truly shines and favors heavy assault tactics, supplying overwhelming firepower to any situation, or typical overkill methodology. She does not truly feel comfortable unless her mobile suit has two ranged weapons, or a heavy weapon. While mobility is secondary in her mind it’s not forgotten and remains a key aspect of whatever she learned before beginning her training with the AEUG. She remains committed to orders deferring to those with seniority and experience almost instinctively but tends to have an image of what a grizzled veteran is and will be very clear to voice her confusion if something clashes with that image.
History
Marika was born in Western Russia and grew with absentee parents which she barely remembers to this day. For most of her life Marika struggled by herself as her parents gambled, or threw their money down the drain. This often caused fights between the parents and on occasion Marika herself was the target of such fights but rarely did the parents ever physically abuse the girl. The start of the One Year War did little to affect her home life, that is until Zeon mobile suits started raining from the sky.
When the Earth Drop Operations began Marika age eleven was pulled along with her family for a few days until they became separated and since then she’s never seen them nor does she really wish to see them at this point. Lost and stuck in a city she was unfamiliar with her eventually found her ‘guardian’ a Zeon soldier named Takumi who was stationed in the town. Initially Takumi likely just took pity on the homeless girl, but never the less took a shine to the girl and helped her out when he could. Thus from early February till around mid June the girl was taken care of for the most part by the stranger, who she grew quite fond of as being one of the few adults that actually seemed to care if she lived or not. This brief moment of her life would end as Takumi had to leave westward to help pacify parts of Europe. She felt betrayed and scared, but he couldn’t take her with him. He gave her what he could and left saying that he’d return saying “You better be around for me to find, kiddo you’ll make me worried if I can’t find ya.” Thus with one last pat on the head the man left somewhere west. Keen to keep a promise of someone she respected Marika did her best to scrape together what she could and was determined to keep herself going. During this time she also became quite known as a rough and tumble young girl as she began suffering rather rampant bullying once he had left for being friendly with a Zeon Pilot.
When he did return around November after the defeat at Odessa she found a tired and exhausted man seemingly broken but perked up when he saw that the girl had remembered the promise. With the situation after Odessa and the area around her temporary home now in chaos Takumi struggled trying to find a way to bring the girl with him to keep his promise, in part he would later admit because he failed to help someone he had met while he was gone. This however came with the problem of his unit's situation and the dangers to the child. Giving her what he could spare Takumi hoped it would be enough for her and headed back to his unit. Without a moment’s hesitation and no links to the town itself Marika followed after the man and stowed away or followed after them however she could.
The girl was often a sight at whatever camp they formed and soon enough was a common sight and endeared herself to others within the unit. Finally after doing whatever she could, from cooking to cleaning she was finally brought along as they began their major push out of Eastern Europe.
From then on it seemed like they were constantly on the move and Marika herself is adamant to elaborate on this portion of her life, but she moved around mostly to stay out of range of Earth Federation mop up operations before the unit Takumi was attached to settled on moving down towards Africa instead of heading to Southeast Asia. She does consider this point when she is ‘adopted’ by her new father. There were several close calls and at least two battles where the unit had to fight it’s way out but they eventually made it and joined up with another group before hunkering down in a cave system. It’s during this time that Marika herself became interested in Zeon items and such more out of necessity since it was the only things to focus on.
After the war and now functioning as Renegade Principality of Zeon Remnants, Marika showed soon enough that she was a quick study and was constantly learning about different things in the base or relating to the Zeon military. This would be her main source of entertainment during the period between 0080 till 0083. What she really became fascinated by were the mobile suits naturally, her adoptive father was a pilot and many of the stories told by him and his friends related to the mobile suits. Thus whenever the suits did do something she was there to watch and if it was low key enough or inside the base itself Marika was able to get inside the cockpit. During this time she was also making herself known as a mechanic for the mobile suits and helped whenever and however she could. The oddball nature of some of the suits quickly amused her but she soon gathered an affinity for a number of Zeon mobile suits. When rumors of Operation Stardust began circulating however the base shifted it’s priorities to early warning and sent a number of personnel out to setup housing around the cave system or establish themselves in nearby cities and also gather supplies. With Marika helping Takumi blend in the duo cycled around stationed in the outlaying housing or in a city, for safety much as he didn’t want to Takumi gifted the girl one of his pistols for protection in case they were found out. Still the base little to no assistance to Operation Stardust and commander Gato would move to another base to use their HLV, although during this period most of the remnant forces were inside the base to conceal themselves often including Marika. Marika’s home was spared an Earth Federation assault and she was eventually able to return once the patrols died down. The North American colony drop naturally had them concerned about reprisals but ultimately they resumed normal operations.
The rise of the Titans in late 0083 greatly worries the entire base and after some internal discussion Marika was not privy to several members was sent out to establish contact with other forces in hopes of allowing coordination between groups. Marika and her father were part of one such group and they all set off traveling through the Middle East and into Asia itself. Marika’s group eventually settled in Hong Kong to prep for further missions deep into Southeast Asia.
While everyone in her makeshift family naturally despised what the Titans were doing, they were still stuck in the mentally of hunkering down and conserving strength. Hence the one reason they were in Hong Kong was to try and prepare for trips to the rest of South East Asia to find other remnants. Feeling like she had to do something, mostly for her family and friends Marika ran away and promptly worked her way around until she could join the AEUG. She only keeps in sparse contact with her father and even then he’s constantly trying to get her to come back. She did however have help from a few of Takumi’s comrades and in return she was told if she could ever get to Side III to try and deliver a few letters or bring back pictures of their home if she could.
After a month traveling in space in late January of 0084 Marika was desperate to get some space experience for mobile suits. She followed a few leads and soon enough found herself applying for a job with Anaheim with both her maintenance experience and being versed in piloting a mobile suit Marika was hired on as a test pilot to fill in mainly as a target for prototype weapons they were developing during test combat. Her job also allowed her to increase her knowledge of Zeon mobile suits and often hounded former Zeonic Engineers for info whenever she could. For the next year and well past the mid half of 0085 Marika had settled into a routine and remained in contact with her father and family down on Earth whenever she could. It wouldn't be until a month after Thirty Bunch that she'd be taken out of that routine.
A message from her father took a rather serious turn almost immediately as he relayed orders from his commander back in Africa. Using what people they had in space they had found out about the colony gassing, now with concern mounting and the desire to stop the Titans growing Marika was ordered to make contact and join the AEUG immediately. The girl was a flurry of activity and quickly resigned from her job with Anaheim and used what info she'd gotten from her father to try and find the AEUG. It took two weeks but soon enough she was able to track down someone from her commander's info and after explaining the situation and what she could possibly offer them she was inducted.
From the last quarter of of 0085 till the end of 0086 Marika was drilled harder and used as a contact if the AEUG needed more info or some coordination with the Zeon Remnants down on Earth. When she did take to the field Marika often tried her best to be in a mobile suit of Zeon origins, this tended to sideline her due to the often outdated nature of the older Zeon mobile suits. When she was transferred to the Sixth Replenishment Squadron it came as a surprise to Marika wondering why they had picked her. Of course when she saw their assigned machines she instantly figured it was because she was no longer a 'risk' at that point. Still Marika does her best to keep what she does or knows to herself and avoids bringing it up or talking about her contacts to those who just don't need to know.
