History
The RGM-79Q GM Quel is the first mass-produced mobile suit created by the Titans special forces. Manufactured on Luna II, the GM Quel was developed using the EFSF's own technology and capabilities as a demonstration of the early Titans' commitment to their "Terra firma" policies, despite gaining the expertise and support from numerous military and civilian contractors, such as the Zeonic Company and Anaheim Electronics after the war. Using the Augusta base's high-performing RGM-79N GM Custom model as the basis of their new design, the Titans started by installing a high performance reactor into the Custom. With the larger power budget afforded by the new reactor, the Titans design team inproved heavily upon the offensive capabilities of the Custom. Whereas the Custom required the dedicated Cannon variant to operate beam weaponry, the Quel was capable of operating a beam rifle or spray gun as standard equipment. This vast increase in firepower gave the unit superior qualities over the Customs it was built to replace.
In addition to the new reactor and weapon systems, the the Quel features incremental improvements over the Custom. An enhanced sensors and electronics package
is complimented by adapting technology from Anaheim to improve maneuverability. With the proliferation of beam weaponry, armor covering what was deemed non-vital was reduced. That improves the agility of the unit comapred to the legacy GM Commands and Customs. Still, the GM frame at the base of the Quel dates all the way back to the One Year War, and the Titans eagerly await the deployment of newer, more advanced units as the Quel continues to soldier on.
