Personality[/u][/SIZE]
Jaime tends to be extraordinarily blunt, often to his detriment and tends to stray into cursing at inopportune moments. He is fiercely proud, nationalistic and loyal. While generally good natured, he can be quick to anger, especially when Zeon is mentioned or encountered, which gets to get him gung ho, and the Zeon attack on Side 2 is a trigger.
History
Jaime began his life unremarkably, the only child of a laborer and a secretary, living in North America. While he managed to get decent grades in school and be reasonably popular, he tended to be unmotivated, much to the chagrin of his parents. This completely changed with the beginning of the One Year War. While North America was not the hardest hit by Zeon, people swarmed into his hometown as refugees. Living quarters and food were suddenly scarce and Jay saw how the war had affected the people who had seen it up close.
In the wake of the One Year War’s end, calls went out from construction groups for workers needed in space. A project to repair the damages caused by the war was beginning, and with distrust of Spacenoids high, management wanted to limit exposure to Zeon saboteurs and were willing to transport Earthnoids into space to begin repairs. Currently jobless, James Neston chose to move his family to Side 2. Jaime responded to suddenly uprooting his life and moving somewhere completely different as many teenagers would: becoming a sullen prick. He began dropping out and was the model of a disaffected teen who didn't know what he was doing with his life…until Operation Stardust.
Before, war had always been an abstract concept, but with the drop of Island Ease on North America, the land he had been born in had been devastated, and he had survived due to his father’s choice. To Jaime, Zeon had twice instigated a war with calamitous civilian casualties. Suddenly feeling a sense of duty, he enrolled at the Federation Academy to be a soldier.
He was home on leave when Zeon remnant forces seized Side 2, claiming that they had a nuclear warhead. It was a terrifying realization and Jaime was sure he and his entire family would die. The counterattack by the Federation brought as much hope as it did terror, as no one knew whether any person would wake the following morning. Figuring that a nuke would kill him whether he stayed in a shelter or not, and that he might be able to help Jaime snuck out. While he would up not meeting with any Federation forces, he got a full view of something that would help define the rest of his life: a HMT Quel dueling it out with a Zeon machine with leader markings. It was like a bloody dance, one of the most beautiful things that Jaime had seen in his life and the exhilaration he felt when the Quel defeated its opponent was as if it was his own. The memory of the fight, both the way the man fought and the distinctive markings of tiger stripes on the arm and a shark mouth over the cockpit, was seared into his brain. Excited, and relieved that the colony would be safe he tried to make his way back, but was caught in an the shockwave of an explosion, where a piece of metal struck his head, giving him a concussion and a nasty scar on his forehead. As he slowly came to in a hospital, he learned that when his father had realized that he had shuck out, his father had gone out to find him. James Neston had wandered too close to a hot zone, and had been clipped by shrapnel from a missed shot and had bled out before anyone could reach him. Jaime never found out who had fired.
Jaime grieved, and throughout his recovery he tried to make some kind of sense of what had happened. He finally concluded that the Federation had done what it needed to do. While his father‘s death was tragic, and in Jaime’s mind partly his own fault, the battle had needed to be fought. Zeon’s track record was so bad that they very well could have set the weapon to blow and sneak away, free to do it again and again. The Federation’s operation, while risking civilian lives had to have been necessary because Zeon was simply too dangerous to allow to persist, even in secret and it was on them that Jaime laid the entirety of the blame.
Impressed with the flight lead’s performance, Jaime resolved to become the man that he watched fight off the Zekes. When he returned to the academy Jaime made it his mission to become a Mobile Suit pilot. During that time, Jaime made several, mostly unsuccessful queries to find out the identity of that man. At this point, all he has managed to learn was that DEVRON 17 had been at Side 2, but he managed to get access to some of the battle recorders and began to study how his idol fought, trying to replicate the same move in the sims. When news broke that a subset of the military was being devoted to hunt Zeon remnants, Jaime jumped at every opportunity he could be assigned to them and repeatedly submitted requests to be transferred there upon graduation. Whether due to his repeated requests, or faith in his skills, when Jaime graduated from the academy he was assigned to the newly formed Fifteenth Tactical Mobile Suit Squadron on Luna II for flight training under LCDR James Ennis.
While he struggled at first in the training due to his relative lack of experience, he did manage to pass through Ennis' rigorous review, receiving the callsign Horus 5 and being assigned a RGM-79Q GM Quel.
