History
Born on Side 3 to Klaus and Olga Steiner, Hilda led a hard life. Klaus was a dock worker, and Olga worked like a slave to keep everything together at home. Hilda, as a consequence of her father's long hours and mother's focus on keeping the home together, had free run of the colony more often than not. As a kid, she spent an awful lot of her time running around the colony with a large circle of friends, always playing. She carried that over as she entered school, preferring nothing of what her father considered proper behavior for a young lady. She quickly developed a genuine love for (soccer) football, and took to the marital arts like a fish to water, studying akido for her entire upbringing.
In grammar school, she discovered a genuine gift for mathematics. When she got her hands on her first computer, she spent days tearing it apart, learning everything she could about it, and when she finished that, she took to coding. She neglected most of her studies, idly playing with her computer and 'testing herself' as she put it. While her grades were mediocre at best due to lack of interest, by her Junior year she had bypassed the school's firewalls and given herself a much more satisfactory record for academic year 0078.
With her success in slicing her record, she took to more... challenging problems in her free time. With her family hitting tough times she managed to siphon off funding from the Bank of Zeon - a few dollars here and there - to keep things going at home. She grew increasingly angry with the Earth government, as their sanctions against Side 3 made it increasingly difficult for her family to make ends meet, and her forays into cyberspace had to grow more and more bold to keep the money coming in to the family, but she always covered her trail.
Or at least, she thought she'd dusted her tracks, armored as she was with the arrogance of youth. Until a member of the Zeon military showed up on her doorstep, that is He mentioned that while there were a few noses decidedly out of joint, she had talents that they needed, and he offered her a posting in the Zeon military that would get her parents better health care and a steady revenue stream. Between the prospect of bettering her family and her mounting contempt for the Earthnoids, Hilda enlisted in the Zeon military right out of high school.

After the War and Stardust, she had no desire to soldier on for the glory of Axis, and instead sought a quiet life on Luna as a software engineer for Anaheim. She made a life for herself on Luna, finally able to put the mess of a pilot's life behind her. She still made sure to send money home every check to help things out, since she was now doing well for herself. Her parents eventually joined her on Von Braun, her father again joining the dockworkers guild, this time though as a Shift Foreman. For two years, she led a quiet life, where no one knew she'd been with Zeon.
The 30 Bunch incident, however, changed that. After seeing the Titans gassing colonies wholesale, not to mention their descent into an oppressive regime and the corruption of the Earth Sphere, she decided she would put her talents as a slicer and pilot to good use. She reached back out to Langstrom, hoping that the old Zeke shipdriver was involved in the AEUG already. While Langstrom wasn’t involved, much like her 30 Bunch was a tipping point for him as well, and the pair quickly located an AEUG cell and were both quickly brought in on the strength of their experiences. Still young, still very used to playing different ways than most, she nevertheless was assigned to the Polaris as a mobile suit pilot and security specialist. While her War record is still tightly under wraps, she is a hell of a hot hand with a mobile suit and can go toe to toe with the best of them in hand to hand, earning her the grudging respect of the Sixth Replenishment.
